The Audi Quattro revolutionised rallying. With a permanent 4wd system which worked well under high performance conditions it re-wrote the rallying rules. It started out a bit heavy, as a 4 seater coupe, but became shorter, lighter and wilder throughout its rallying life. The Sport E2 Group B monster being the end of the line, killed off by rallying rule changes.
