Nissan & Datsun Rally
Datsun 240Z
The Datsun cult car, the 240Z was a great long distance rally car, winning the Safari rally twice in 1971 and 1973. This is the livery of the 1971 winner, the 1973 car was pretty similar and driven by the legendary Safari driver Shekhar Mehta.
Datsun 160J/Violet
The 160J and Violet cars from Datsun won the Safari rally on 4 occassions back to back from 1979 to 1982, all driven by Shekhar Mehta. Their reliability was the stuff of legends and in 1981 they also finished runners up in the championship for makes.
Nissan 240RS
For the 240RS the Datsun name was droped in favour of Nissan. This car competed in Group B alongside the Audi Quattros and Peugeot 205 T16's. But it was not competitive enough. The version painted here was the best result for the car in the 1983 New Zealand rally where it finished 2nd driven by Timo Salonen.
